The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age of the Understatement

Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane of The Rascals came together in 2005 and had what Miles called a "mind-blowing" connection of creative sensibilities. They in turn picked up Simian Mobile Disco founding member James Ford (who, incidentally produced Klaxons' Mercury Prize-winning Myths of the Near Future) and the London Metropolitan Orchestra. What came out of this embarrassment of talent is the last album on our foray through 2008's Naionwide Mercury Prize nominees.

Age of the Understated is a stunning work of 60's retro Eurovision sound with soaring strings and tight harmonies. Each song is lush and tight and full of energy: three minutes of kitchy heaven. Check out the title track below:
