Shad - The Old Prince

Number six in our series exploring the Polaris Music Prize shortlisted albums brings us to Shadrach Kabango. The London, Ontario native's stunning album, The Old Prince, has a killer sound, socially-conscious themes, and hooks to die for. It is, however, rather difficult to find. In my search for product links today I discovered the Amazon listing has his record around the $30 mark; his label's website makes him difficult to find and eventually redirects to Maple Music, where the disc can be purchased for the (finally) reasonable price of $12 Canadian. The sites I found along my journey were littered with user comments like "I love your album but it took me forever to find it anywhere!" All this to say, for an up-and-coming hip hop superstar, he is sadly quite underrepresented. Maybe someone will notice and scoop him away from the inevitable obscurity that is Black Box. At any rate, check out Brother (Watching)...

The shortlisters:
Black Mountain - In The Future, Plants And Animals - Parc Avenue, Basia Bulat - Oh, My Darling, Stars - In Our Bedroom After The War, Caribou - Andorra, Shad - The Old Prince, Kathleen Edwards - Asking For Flowers, Two Hours Traffic - Little Jabs, Holy Fuck - LP, The Weakerthans - Reunion Tour
